5 on Friday

Can I just say how happy I am that it is Friday? This week has been the longest and I didn't Friday would ever get here. Work has been rough but I am thankful for having a job that pays well.

One//
I woke up this morning to a crazy loud storm. The lightening was SO bright and the thunder was so loud it jarred things on my bedside table. It was over by time my alarm went off and I got up and started getting ready for work and packing to go home this weekend and then it thundered one more time and there went our electricity...nothing like getting ready in the dark to start out your day. It's still gloomy and raining but I'm hoping the temperatures stay warm

Two//
Last Saturday night we watched Captain Philips and it was a good movie! It started out kinda slow but definitely made up for it and was pretty intense. There were a couple of actors in the movie that were just plain creepy. Especially this guy holding the gun something about his eyes were just creepy, when he got mad they would get HUGE.

So lil ole buddy of mine, Ethan, thought it would be funny to send this a couple of times...
RIGHT BEFORE I WENT TO SLEEP.

Three//
The weather this week was PERFECT! It was actually almost hot. We turned the heat off early this past weekend (thank goodness because I am not all about paying these high utilities bills). Matthew grilled Monday and Tuesday and it was delicious. We went to Cane Creek Park and got a good walk in
and had this incredible view

Four//
It rained Wednesday night so our softball game got cancelled last night because the fields were still too wet so we decided to go out to the soccer fields and just play a little and it was a lot of fun! I love nights like last night!!

Five//
Tuesday night Matthew grilled pork chops and we had dinner with his older brother and then headed over to the SOC house to meet some friends. We all headed over to campus to hear Dr. Oldham, the president of Tennessee Tech, speak. It was pretty good. We thought it was going to be longer and a little more but it was just a Q&A with the audience. Dr. Oldham is a member of the church so it was nice to hear his views on different topics and how he juggles his faith and work at the same time.

After that was over Matthew took us on a little tour of the building where all his accounting classes are and I finally got to see where he worked for about 2 years, in the business media center.
This was Matthew's desk and that otter costume to the left of him...he had to wear that a few times!!!!
They promoted seat belt safety to elementary school children all over Tennessee. He would travel and talk to a couple of schools at a time. Most of the time he did the talking and someone else dressed up as Ollie the Otter but there were a few times were he was Ollie! The kids loved it and LOVED going to get their picture made with Ollie and to give him a high five. Precious.  It was fun seeing where he worked!

Have a great weekend!! :)

Monday//funday

Yesterday I felt like everyone and their momma's were off from school/work but ME. Sadly I had to work and to be honest I was pretty bummed out about it. Well I got to work and we were DEAD. I'm talking only 11 calls in 3 1/2 hours. So when my leader started sending people home I jumped on it, and it's a good thing that I did. The weather yesterday was GREAT for January and we had some friends come into town so it was good to see them for a little bit. We decided to all go to Cheddars for lunch and it did not disappoint!
Matthew and I have decided to try something new, we are trying to lose some weight and get fit. We want to cut down on our portions and eating out. So far we have been pretty good about eating out. Limiting ourselves to once or twice a week. Which is hard when you live in a college town and every night is college night at a different food place with good discounts. It is SO much easier just stopping and picking something up using that student discount but it is SO bad for us and it adds up pretty quickly. So far I am pretty proud of us so far. What we are going to try to start doing when we go to a restaurant is start sharing a meal. We got this idea from one of our best friends and it makes sense if you really think about it!!!!
1. We are need to eat smaller portions
2. We want to save money but still be able to enjoy going out to eat with friends
3. We don't really like reheating leftovers (from some restaurants, ex: the fries from Cheddars reheated = gross soggy fries)
4. We NEED to eat smaller portions, did I already mention that?

So yesterday at Cheddars we tried it for the first time and guess what? We really liked it!
We ordered the chicken finger platter. If you have never been to Cheddars then you should know that
 1. Their food is amazing
2. They give you a TON of food
3. They are pretty cheap

The chicken finger platter came with about 8 huge chicken tenders and 2 sides. Perfect.
We split the chicken tenders and I had a side of mashed potatoes and Matthew had a side of fries.
We were both full but not too full to the point we were miserable and our bill was cut in half. We like the idea of this and plan on doing it more. There might be times were we don't want the same thing or there just isn't enough food to share and we are okay with that.

Yesterday was a GOOD day, a very much needed GOOD day. We both cleaned out our cars and I got mine washed. I took a small nap while Matthew studied and then we went to Cane Creek Park and went on a 2.5 mile walk! The weather was SO nice and we enjoyed every minute of it! We saw this incredible view while we were walking and I just had to stop and capture it
We found a new place that we want to start walking/running at and we are excited for it to warm up a bit so we can do so more often! For dinner last night Matthew grilled us some pork chops and they were DELICIOUS and I made some quick noodles as a side.  I will definitely be enjoying some of those pork chops for lunch today while looking at this view...

These are pictures I took right after it started and within about 20 minutes everything was completely white and it's still coming down! I really wasn't expecting it to snow today, I knew it would be REALLY cold today compared to the 58 degrees we had yesterday but nothing like this. Those were some of the biggest snowflakes I have ever seen, it was beautiful.

Spontaneous date nights are THE best

Lately Matthew has been into disc golf.
If it's not raining and he isn't studying or at work he wants to be playing disc golf. Personally I think it's cute :)
I am usually at work when he goes to play but a couple of Saturdays ago we had the whole day to do whatever so we went! Honestly I really enjoyed it, I was awful and hit every tree in the park I think but it was fun and I loved watching him play something he enjoys.
Matthew is REALLY good at disc golf and beat me by a lot!

I had never played before so he had to teach me everything step by step, it's not hard at all but I had to work on it.

Here is Matthew going for a throw

and here I am going for one

After we played the first 9 we decided to try the paddle boats out! We have been to Cane Creek plenty of times and always said we would do it another time and we really wanted to try them out so we did!!

It was a little bit of work actually paddling the boat so we added in cardio to My Fitness Pal :)

Here are some of the pictures I took...the view was BEAUTIFUL as the sun was setting

Next time we go we are going to have a picnic on the water in this area! It was so pretty and once the leaves change a little more it will be even better!

After that we were driving back to Matthew's apartment and he suggested we grab dinner and go to a movie. We rarely go to the movies because we can't justify paying that much and usually settle on watching something on Netflix or grabbing a Redbox movie with a promo code so we were both excited to go to the movies.
We went to our FAVORITE burger place here in Cookeville, Flippin Burger. Seriously the best burger I've ever had and you can get unlimited toppings...nacho cheese?
Yes PUH-LEASE.
We saw Runner Runner with Justin Timberlake and it was a good movie,
I LOVE spontaneous date nights.
