My SISTER has a blog!!!!

A couple of months ago my sister started a blog! She has been tweaking it and learning along the way how blogging works. Recently she has been blogging periodically. She's a senior in high school and always on the go. I'm so sad I didn't think of blogging while I was in high school. I would have LOVED to look back at my high school posts!! A couple of days after I got engaged she surprised me with a sweet gift and she has written a post on it to share with y'all!

So here she is!!

Hey yall, my name is Madison from Initially Yours, MK. I was ecstatic when Shelby asked me to do a guest post on her blog! This is my first guest post so I decided to write about the engagement basket I made for my sister, Shelby.

So I got the idea from Pinterest and I tweaked it a little bit to make it fit the needs of my sister.
I started out by buying this basket at Walmart for $1.

I then picked out two wedding magazines for her to flip through and get ideas from. $5.99 and $6.99 a piece.

I bought a spiral notebook for her to write down any wedding notes down in. $2.47

I bought a cute chevron note pad for .88 and Paper Mate Pens for $4.97. Next I bought sticky note tabs for Shelbs to mark certain spots in the magazines for any ideas she likes. $1
My mom helped me pick out a cute little sign just to put in for decoration $5 and a bottle of relaxing body wash $5.97.

To top the basket off I picked out a candle $3.00, sticky notes $1.27, and Essie nail polish $8 because the bride to be's nails must ALWAYS be painted perfectly when showing off her ring. Also I placed a bottle of Welch's Sparkling Grape Juice in because I know it's her favorite and it's non alcoholic of course!

She was really surprised and loved it!
It was really exciting to see her reaction when she received the basket. And I cannot wait for her wedding!!!!

Any ideas about what else can be added?

Initially Yours, MK

Are you dating the right one?

Hello! I know, I’m not Shelby… but don’t be too bummed! I’ll try to keep y’all entertained! I’m Meghan and I blog over at BeautifullyInspired. I’m a newlywed (going on 461 days) married to the man of my dreams… Travis (aka Trav). We live a little north of Tennessee in this state called Kentucky, you know the one with the horses and and basketball? Yeah, that place. I love it here. We just bought our first house less than 4 months ago and are in the process of making it ours. Oh I should probably mention, we have two puppies that make their way on my blog very often.

First of all, don’t y’all think Shelby and Matthew are the Cutest. Couple. Ever.?! High school sweethearts are a rarity. Here’s a shoutout to all of those crazies who knew he was “the one” in high school (aka my mom and dad and my brother and sister-in-law)!! You guys really amaze me. If I were to have married my high school boyfriend, I would be in some serious trouble. This was my junior year of high school:

Clearly I was not as mature as some people.

It took me a lot of time to get things right in my relationships. Let’s just say that I had a lot of learning to do. Once I thought I had found the right guy, there was always something about him that I wanted to fix.
So, I managed to make all the mistakes. I dated the “bad boy” and the “momma’s boy” and the “depressed” boy. I couldn’t make the bad boy a good one. I couldn’t help the momma’s boy become more independent and I definitely couldn’t, with all my might, make the depressed boy happy. I found that I was giving so much, and getting nothing in return. Now, that can really wear a girl down. Through each relationship, I realized that I needed to find that boy that I didn’t need to fix.

And then, there was Trav.

I remember sitting on the front porch with Mom one evening thinking about how well Trav and I flow, everything’s easy, like we’re just so in sync. I looked at her and I said, “Mom, I couldn’t change one thing about Travis. Nothing about him irritates me. And he is truly happy.” She smiled. (He had already asked my parents for their blessing, I had no idea.) Because of all the heartbreak I had been through, I was cautious about everything when it came to Travis.

I realize now that I had really matured.

In the beginning of our relationship, we were best friends. We really talked and got to know each other for months before we actually became officially boyfriend/girlfriend. And even through that time, we still maintained our own identities. I really think that’s also important in a relationship. In the past, I would give up so much to try to make a relationship work. With Travis, I really didn’t have to give up anything. I maintained my friendships and spent quality time with my family, something I had failed miserably in before.

In the end, I will have to say that I am envious of people that are able to make it happen on the first try. To go back and not experience all of the heartbreak and pain would have been awesome. I know that the things that I experienced led me to Travis, but it was really, really hard at times.

If you feel like you’re in a relationship and he’s not the one, just take a step back and reflect. Is there something that you’re trying to change about him? Is there anything that really bothers you? Are you able to maintain your own identity? These are the things that I see NOW that I should have asked myself then.

If you haven’t yet been in a relationship yet, be thankful and patient. He will come one day when you’re both ready and mature. You are saving yourself a ton (I mean a TON) of heartbreak, pain, and insecurity.

Xoxo.

Student style vs Professional style

Good morning love muffins!
Today one of my friends from high school and her older sister are going to share with you their different views on fashion as they are in different stages in life. I was so excited when I saw familiar faces in the blogging world and I am so excited for you to get to know them!

Here they are :)

Hello Stay Crafty My Friends! Liz and I are the authors to Hawthorn Place. We are new to the blogging world and were so excited when Shelby graciously invited us to guest blog. Since we are in different stages of life, we wanted to share our styles based on our roles as a student and a professional.

I am a senior in college and love the comfy but cute student style. I chose this combination beginning with the denim top. The great thing about denim tops is that some of the best ones can be found at thrift shops! From there, I immediately paired some black leggings that can also be found real cheap, like these H&M ones above! I am a huge sweater fan, so I chose a longer bulky one for the fall. The cheetah flats are my favorite part of this combination. They are from target, which is one of the best places for cheap and cute anything! Cheetah also seems to be making a statement, especially in J. Crew’s latest catalog! The wristlet is an essential for any college student! To top this outfit off, I added the monogram necklace. I love anything and everything monogrammed! Small, but gives the outfit a pop!

I work in the corporate marketing world so part of my job is looking presentable. One thing that is important to me is that I look professional but still youthful. I love the peter pan collar on this J Crew Factory top. Pair it with some yellow heels and a burgundy purse and you will look great this fall! I like to keep jewelry simple at the office, so most of the time I just wear cute studs, a watch, and a few bangles.  Happy shopping!

Don't be a stranger y'all, go and show them some love on their blog!!
