treat others how you want to be treated

I have been racking my brain all day for this post, then it hit me as I was walking to the bathroom. Weird? I know. Growing up my parents talked to us about a lot of stuff, from not drinking and smoking to wearing my seatbelt to being kind to other people.   Day 3: Pass on some useful advice or information you learned and always remembered.

  The one thing that has stood out most to me was "treat others how you want to be treated" not only did this piece of advice stick out to me but I have actually experienced this multiple times. One time that I remember is summer of 2012 Matthew and I decided to try a new church back home. We were looking for a college age group of the same faith to hangout with and go to church with. The first Sunday the college class was huge, or so we thought, it was more than what we were used to...a class of 5 (including us) so it was pretty big to us. We were excited and anxious to get to know everyone.   After a few Sundays we were disappointed, only 1 or 2 had introduced themselves and even those only said hi in passing. We were wanting  them to open up to us or at least have an actual conversation.   Once I came up here to Cookeville I started going to the church Matthew, his brothers, their friends and my roommates go to. I had an advantage though, I have been going on retreats with all of the college group here for the past 2 years. Spending a whole weekend in a cabin in the middle of nowhere with no cell phone reception let alone Internet connection you are more than likely going to get to know the girls in your cabin.   Anyways, with school starting back up there are a TON of new people. I immediately thought back to that summer and how we felt pretty left out and we eventually started going to another church because of it. I didn't want any of the new students feeling that way at our church here, so I try to make it a point to talk to at least 1 or 2 new people when I see them. Isn't that what we are called to do? If we don't make them feel welcome that could lead to leave the church completely. This has been on my mind and heart lately and some of my morning have definitely been spent in prayer about this.   Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets Matthew 7:12
