Why We Work

WHY WE WORK...
We are both awesome.
Just kidding. Here is just a small bit about why I believe "we work"

We fight fair
Yes we argue. Yes we disagree. Yes we get frustrated and yes we are sometimes disappointed.
No we aren't any different then you and your significant other. No we don't break up every other day and no we don't hate each other.

When we first started dating I thought there was NOTHING we would ever argue about, NOTHING we could fight about and NOTHING could make me mad at him.
We were still in THAT stage of our relationship.
I was in for a rude awakening y'all.
After about 6 months of dating or so we had our first big fight. We were on the phone into the wee hours of the morning arguing back and forth, neither one of us wanted to admit we were both in the wrong and there was some a lot of crying on my end..
I immediately thought our relationship was over.
Here we are almost 4 years later, we didn't break up but we did learn A LOT from that.
Actually, we learned to fight fair.
As hard as it is for us to admit sometimes we are wrong and we make mistakes but when you can find someone who can help you realize that without holding an "I told you so" over your head you are headed in the right direction.
STILL to this day we disagree on things and Lord willing we will have arguments in the future (I wouldn't want to have arguments with any other guy but him) but we have both learned not only from our own but from each others mistakes.

Some ways we have learned to fight fair are

We talk about it right then.
If it is possible we try to solve it right then and there because if we stay mad at each other it only gets worse.
You know that saying "never go to bed mad at each other"? DO listen to that one or that saying "just sleep on it"? DON'T listen to that one. Why would you want to try and go to sleep mad? I don't know about you but I am not going to get a bit a sleep if I am upset or worried he is upset about something. So instead of prolonging something small or big just go on and talk about it. I would much rather spend 15-30 minutes talking something out then spend the whole night mad at each other.

Stop talking and just listen
We let each other get out what we need to say without interrupting the other one and telling them they are wrong. No one likes hearing they are wrong or being interrupted and that just creates a whole other argument. So stop talking and actually listen. Try and see where they were coming from.
If I am trying to tell Matthew he hurt my feelings or I didn't appreciate something he said or did then he tries his best to see how it could have hurt my feelings. He puts himself in my shoes in that certain situation and vice versa.

We are honest with each other
Towards the beginning of our relationship I didn't tell Matthew that certain things he did hurt my feelings or that I didn't appreciate some of the things he said. It was nothing major but I didn't want him to think I was complaining or being ridiculous but in reality I NEEDED to let him know when something bothered me as well as he NEEDED to let me know when I did something that bothered him.

Don't hold it in
Just like what I said before this is something that we both struggled with in the beginning. We would let little things grow and become big things. This is what resulted in our first fight that I mentioned up there. One small thing was said that night and it was like the flood gates were opened stuff just kept being brought up. We were both a little shocked that we had let that much stuff build up and that those small things bothered us; but we realized it, picked up from there and built a small part of our relationship on that.

I am grateful for our first fight.
I am grateful for that long conversation. I am grateful for how far we have come when it comes to disagreeing, and I am grateful we have learned to fight fair.
Don't get me wrong, sometimes we still don't listen and just interrupt the other one when they are tying to get whatever it is off our chest and sometimes it is HARD to see where the other one is coming from. It is and will always be a work in progress and for that I am grateful too.

How do you and your significant other handle fights? Do you fight fair?

3 years ago today

This stud muffin asked me to be his girlfriend.
and of course I said YESSSS.

Sometimes I still pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming all of this!! Matthew is the kindest, most patient, sweetest boyfriend in the world. I know, I know gag me with a plastic spoon, this is so super cheesy and you want to quit reading or role your eyes, that’s cool too. But, seriously if know us together, then you know. You really just know y’all.

I can’t believe I get to hug him, love him, annoy him, kiss him and bug him every day. I couldn’t imagine living this crazy life with anyone else but him. I thank God for YOU and this incredible love that we share together every single day. Thank you for choosing me to be your girlfriend and being my best friend and thank you for challenging me every day to be the woman you deserve. I will love you better every day. Also, thanks for being so dang good lookin. I don’t hate it. Happy three years, Matthew!
LOVE YOU SO MUCH

Happy 21st birthday, Matthew!

Happy birthday to my black cherry cola drinking, Netflix loving, cheesecake eating, Christ centered, fun loving, Witty, smart, thoughtful, strong, dependable, trustworthy, kindhearted and super attractive best friend.
Thank you for challenging me everyday to be the woman you deserve.

I am so excited Matthew's birthday is today. Birthdays are a BIG deal to me and I have been preparing for his 21st for the past few weeks. From making sure I found the perfect gift to planning our day out, so I am excited to finally celebrate his special day with him.
I took the day off from work and since we are both on spring break we have a whole day free to ourselves.
Here is what I have planned for today: First we are going to....oh wait, Matthew likes to get on here and look around (yes I am talking about you Mr. Sneaky. I knew you would get on here and see if I posted anything, ha!). So I will just tell y'all tomorrow what all I have planned for today & don't worry I will take plenty of pictures :)

All jokes aside, I love my Matthew. This will be the 4th birthday I have been able to celebrate with him and I can honestly say each year gets better and better.

This picture was taken back on his 18th birthday
The first one I celebrated with him. We weren't dating yet but that night started it all!
After all it was around this time of year that we started getting to know each other (again) and talking :) Such happy memories. I can't wait to celebrate many more birthdays with him.

Also Happy birthday to Matthew's twin brother Nathan!!

 LOVE them.

Happy birthday, Matthew. You deserve every bit of the love, wishes and blessings you receive today. YOU are one of a kind and I am so happy to be your girlfriend and to get to celebrate YOU today and everyday.

I love you more than you will ever know.

Day 10 of Things I Love

Day 10 of Things I Love: Valentine's Day

I LOVE all holidays but Valentine's Day is up there with my favorites!
Since we were not able to go out on Thursday we went out Saturday night.

The night started out with the beautiful beautiful roses.

We then went to the movies to see Safe Haven

The movie was great. I love Nicholas Sparks movies. Matthew liked it because of Julianne Hough, that's okay Josh Duhamel wasn't looking bad himself ;)
All jokes aside they were perfect for this movie.

I read the book a couple of years ago and instantly fell in love so when I heard they were making a movie I had a countdown going.

After the movie we had dinner at Red Robin..yummmm!

We then came back to my house and I had him go into the other room so I could set up our little romantic dessert!

I found a few tea light candles we had laying around the house and set those up and I found those cute heart glasses at Wal Mart for $1.99. I made his favorite Oreo balls and got his favorite black cherry cola from Kroger.

Perfect Valentine's date with my love.

Day 16 & 15 of Things I Love

I have to start getting better at this!!

Day 16 of Things I Love: cooking/baking

About two years ago at this time the only thing I knew how to "cook" was spaghetti.
Poor Matthew, he would always eat my spaghetti and I'm sure choke it down but bless his heart he did it with a smile every time, ha!

Last New Year (2012)my resolution was to learn how to cook more than just spaghetti
and I think I have accomplished that! I LOVE to find new recipes and just start cooking away.
Again, Matthew is the person who usually is the first one to try my new dish and so far he has liked all of them (or so he said). I pretty much know when he likes something and when he is just being nice :) he's a sweetheart.

I made him his favorite type of muffins for Valentines day...CHOCOLATE CHIP.
He's going to be so excited. I added extra chocolate chips.

I was really tempted to try one.

I found on Pinterest (shocker, right?) a cute way to add color to plain cupcake liners
and of course I had to try it!

All you need:

- white cupcake liners

- food coloring

- water

- bowls for mixing the dye in that are wide enough on the bottom to fit the top of a cupcake liner

It’s pretty simple actually, all you have to do is mix the food coloring in a bowl with some water (use more water for lighter shades) and then dip the top of the cupcake liner in it.

I had to hold each one down like this..

I loved how they turned out and can't wait to try other colors!

Day 15 of Things I Love: LOVE

Cheesy, I know but I just couldn't help it since today is VALENTINE'S DAY

Happy Lovaahs day!

I hope you all had a wonderful day, either with your love of with someone you care about!

Matthew, sadly has a test tomorrow so we are celebrating our THIRD Valentine's Day this Saturday!
Did I mention it's our THIRD Valentine's Day together? I seriously can't believe it's been that long yet I feel like I have known him my whole life.
I am continually amazed by his caring and loving ways. He has a passion for everything he does and funny enough his goals become mine for him because I know how eager he is for them and I am just SO over joyed when he reaches them.

It has been very clear for a long time and each day I am reminded of just how much we love each other.

This was our first Valentine's Day together (2011)

This was last year, our second Valentine's Day together (2012)

Obviously I got a haircut, ha!

Happy Valentine's Day to my perfect Valentine. I love you forever.

Day 24 of Things I Love

Day 24 of Things I Love: My tv shows

There are a few shows that I watch every week. I might not get to watch them when they come on that night but thank the Lord for DVR!!

Lets see here...

Monday nights: The Bachelor

OH MY GOSH...Sean Lowe

...need I say more?
I am actually watching it right now and they are in Canada. Jealous.

Tuesday nights: Pretty Little Liars
This show came out the summer before my senior year of high school and I was hooked right away. Even though it's probably considered a high school show for young teen girls I am still hooked on this murder mystery/drama!

Wednesday nights: Duck Dynasty

How could you not love them? They are a member of the church, the show is totally kid friendly, they are country and have morals and of course the beards...but I have to say what I think I love most about the show is the ladies of the show.

My favorite is Si of course.

I have to admit I didn't watch the first season when it came on Wednesday nights but I was sick one day recently and Matthew brought over the first season and we watched it and I fell in love with the beards.

Thursday nights: Vampire Diaries

Stefan & Damon Salvatore...hot vampires? I'll take it.
Me and my dad both love this show and we both watch it each week. Not only do I love this show but I love the bonding I get with my dad over this show!

Now that I think about it I watch a lot of shows...oops!

What are your favorite shows?

I love this man

This is going to be one of those cheesy "I love my boyfriend" posts and I'm not sorry!!

Every since March 11, 2010 I have been crazy and I mean crazy about Matthew. I still remember sitting in spanish class and texting him for the very first time and wishing him a happy birthday (little did I know I would be wishing him happy birthdays in person from there on out). I remember that night going to his house for the first time and meeting up with everyone before going to dinner for his and his twin brothers (Nathan) birthday. There was a big group of us and and we all went outside to leave for dinner and I decided to ride in Matthew's car with him and a few of our friends. I sat in the back on the way there and on the way back to his house after dinner I rode up front and I must say that was one of my smarter decisions. ;) Keep in mind before that day I had hardly said a full sentence to Matthew but when I was riding up front and talking to him and laughing and singing along to the radio I knew it was something I wanted to do again and with him. I remember leaving his house that night and a girl that was there calling me and asking what was going on between me and Matthew and all I could do was blush and laugh. I remember smiling all the way home that night and not wanting it to end.

Fast forward 2 years, 4 months and 1 day and here we are today!

I sometime still can't believe he chose me. Everyday I wake up and I am amazed by how much he loves me. He is an amazing boyfriend and an even better christian and I love his heart and trust him with my life. Over the past 2 years I have watched him grow and mature into the man he is today and I couldn't be more proud of him. He has taught me to love and to be who I am today. I am blessed beyond belief and I won't ever take that for granted. Ever.

With my whole heart for my whole life, I love you Matthew.
