SO PROUD!

It's been an exciting few weeks in the Coats house. At the end of 2016 Matthew got promoted to Senior Associate, Assurance Services at his firm, and passed the final part of the CFE exam.
He started the new year with a new title and a new certification
under his belt- Matthew A. Coats, CPA, CFE, MBA

I had no doubt in my mind that he would get promoted at the end of the year. He has worked so, so hard these past two years at his firm, is respected by so many, and has excelled far past expectations.
In 2016 he studied his tail off and passed all four parts of the CFE exam and can now add Certified Fraud Examiner to his list of certifications!

I know I've said this before, but I am truly grateful for this man. He has carried us through so much this past year, and I can't begin to thank him.
Matthew, I am humbled by the way you love and serve me so well. I am thankful for your hard work and constant positive attitude throughout any situation, and most importantly, your leadership and pursuit of me. I am so glad we're on the same team!

MATTHEW'S HEALTH SCARE

This is an extremely long post, I am writing and sharing this to give family and friends the full story, and so that we can come back and read this in the future. Matthew and I have both talked often about how we love being able to come back to my blog and read old posts about different events and just the everyday life happenings that I blog about. So feel free to skip over this post if you don't feel like reading it. Last week the blog got put on the back burner because of everything that happened, but I popped in on Friday to give a small update. And today I am giving the full story of Matthew's health scare, with his permission of course :)

Sunday, March, 20th: We had just gotten to church for evening service. Service had just started and Matthew leaned over and whispered to me that his right arm, hand and part of his leg was numb. I didn't think too much into it since it wasn't his left arm, but as the service went on he said it was still numb and I could tell it was starting to bother him. I asked if he wanted to leave he said no but started googling what it could be. He couldn't type that well on his phone because his hand was so numb. At this point service was almost over and I could tell it was really bothering him, but he said he was starting to get the feeling back and the numbness was going away. Once service was over it had completely gone away so we decided to go on to Blue Coast for dinner. We really didn't think too much more about it, but he told his parents about it and they advised if it happened again to get it checked out.

Wednesday, March 23rd: I was at work and got a call from Matthew around 11:15 that morning, which is extremely rare. So I answered it, his exact words, "Don't freak out, but my arm went numb again and I'm on the way to the doctor." Insert me freaking out. He told me his arm, hand and leg went numb again that morning for about 45 minutes again but he waited to leave work until the numbness was gone so he wouldn't put himself or anyone else in danger. I found out which doctor he was going to and explained to my boss what was going on and left work early to meet him at the doctor. Of course there was a million things running through my mind and I was worried. I called him once I left work and that's when he told me it was his left arm, hand, and leg this time, and that's when I really started to freak out. I thought he was having a heart attack something was going on heart related. I beat him to the walk-in clinic (his choice to go there, not mine....men ;) I tried to talk him into going to the ER)  but he arrived shortly after I did. To say our experience at the walk-in wasn't pleasant would be an understatement. The "doctor" ruled it out as high blood pressure. Which didn't scare us since his twin brother and both parents have high blood pressure. High blood pressure is common and even my dad has high blood pressure. I still wanted to get a second opinion, but Matthew opted against it. They did blood work (I almost passed out) and put him on blood pressure medicine and told us buy a blood pressure monitor to monitor his blood pressure, eat a healthy diet, drink more water and to exercise 30 minutes a day. So we got the monitor and monitored his blood pressure frequently that afternoon, walked around our neighborhood and just rested. He started taking his blood pressure medicine the following morning.

Friday, March 25th: Our best friends, Ethan and Rachel came over after dinner to hang out. Matthew and Ethan were playing x-box and Rachel and I were catching up. In the middle of their game Matthew said, "Hey shel, don't freak out but my arm is numb again." I  told him we needed to go to the ER but he said no he would be fine, so I immediately got the blood pressure monitor and took his blood pressure...it was 156/102. Yes that's high, but we thought we had found the reasoning behind the numbness, high blood pressure! So I got him some water and we were just sitting around talking about it when all of a sudden his speech started slurring. He was completely cognitive, but he was trying to talk and it just wasn't coming out. We thought he was joking, and as soon as we realized he wasn't joking I gave him a pretty firm (Ethan said it was a teacher voice lol) "Let's go" and we all jumped up and put our shoes on and Ethan drove us to the ER. Thankfully it's only about 10-12 minutes away from our house. I called Matthew's parents on the way to the ER and they headed down there. Before I could even get him checked into the ER they took him back and were hooking him up to everything and ordering CT scans, EKG, etc. Note: When you are having heart attack/stroke symptoms and your blood pressure is through the roof ER's doctors/nurses do NOT waste any time....thankfully! They literally took him back for his CT scan about 10 minutes after being checked in. I went into the ER room he was going to be in and the nurse started pumping me for questions about his symptoms/family history. They brought him back and we waited for the ER doctor to read all his scans and update us. His blood pressure slowly came down as well, and they gave him more blood pressure medicine in his IV to help that. A little bit later the ER doctor came in and very quickly told us, all tests and scans came back normal, and to follow up with a neurologist on Monday morning at that hospital. He did say that if it happened again to come back into the ER, and that was it. We were kind of relieved and kind of still worried sick. We wanted to know what was causing everything. So we went home and got in the bed but I don't think either of us slept more than 30 minutes at a time.

Sunday, March 27th: Saturday came and went without any numbness, but I do believe we checked his blood pressure around 25 times, not even exaggerating. We were scared of it getting up too high and causing another spell. Thankfully it never got too high. Sunday night around 7:30 Matthew told me his arm was starting to go numb again. So we got our shoes on and I called his parents and told them we were headed to the hospital. This time Matthew wanted to go to the hospital in our hometown, which is about 40 minutes away. I asked if he was sure and he said yes, so I drove us to the hospital in Murfreesboro. I flew there and broke a few laws but I was determined to get us there quickly. We got him checked in and they finally took him back. He didn't loose his speech this time, but about half way to the hospital he told me it was getting a little hard to breath/swallow (please note: this is when the laws were broken.) They ran more tests and scans, and finally the ER doctor came in and saw him. This doctor was very blunt...blunt as in when Matthew's tests and scans came back all normal, again, he let out a big "well sh**" because he was just as stumped as everyone else. Not exactly the reaction we wanted from the DOCTOR, but that's what we got. He told us if it was just the numbness he would have dismissed it, everyone gets numbness in their limbs occasionally, but the speech slurring is what is "throwing him off".  He told us these spells Matthew was having sounded just like TIA's (Transient Ischemic Attack) AKA mini strokes, but he doesn't think they are mini strokes because it was migratory (the numbness was on each side of the body instead of just one. ) So he told us he wanted to transfer us to a hospital that is downtown Nashville that specializes in strokes and there was a neurologist scheduled to be there the following day. He told us it could be numerous things that were causing the TIA symptoms, a hole in his heart, MS, or other neurological disorders (this is where I almost threw up.)

So a little after midnight we loaded up in an ambulance (we tried to drive, but it was protocol to be transferred by ambulance) and they transferred us downtown. Our ambulance crew was SO awesome. I had to sit up front and the lady driving was very sweet, and that was so comforting. The guy that rode in the back with Matthew was just a hoot! He had us laughing most of the way and our time together, He actually is taking online classes at Tennessee Tech to become an RN...such a small world :)

The ambulance ride was around 45 minutes and by time we got to the hospital and got to our new room it was well after 1 am. Matthew's parents were our saving grace during all of this. When we left the ER in Murfreesboro his mom drove my car and they ran by our house and got us clothes, toiletries, etc. and then they brought my car down to us at the hospital. They waited with us until the night time doctor came around to see what she said, but it was just the basic "getting to know you patient questions". She ordered a ton of more test and scans for the later that day (since technically it was already Monday.) After we got settled Matthew's parents went home to get a few hours of sleep before they came back the next day. We finally got to doze off around 3 am, and nurses were in and out very often ;) I think we got about an hour and a half of sleep, if that.

Monday, March 28th: We were up and prepared for them to come get Matthew early for his MRI, but they didn't come for his MRI or any other tests/scans until around 11:30. We were pretty frustrated since 1.) We obviously wanted answers. and 2.) Matthew wasn't able to eat until we got the results from everything, just in case he needed surgery for anything. Matthew's parents came back that morning and we all just sat around and talked to pass the time until they came and got him for his MRI. We were SO incredibly thankful to have them with us through everything, they kept us sane!

I was able to go down with him for his MRI, I just sat outside in the MRI waiting area. It took about an hour for that. I have never had an MRI or heard one. It was so loud and just unsettling. I wanted to bad to be in there with him, but that wasn't an option. After his MRI they did a throat ultrasound and then a heart ultrasound to check and see if there was a hole in his heart. It was actually kind of interesting to watch the heart ultrasound. They put some type of dye in his IV and I have no idea how all of this works, but we could see it so into his heart, and if we saw it go out the other side then that would have confirmed the hole in his heart, but it didn't!! Praise The Lord! All of the MRI and ultrasound techs were incredibly sweet and answered ALL questions we had. So thankful for that because I had about a million. The heart ultrasound tech's name was Adele, although she didn't sing for us, she had some great Adele jokes, which really lightened the mood.

After about 3 hours we were back in his room and waiting on the neurologist to tell us the results of his tests/scans. It had been well over 15+ hours since Matthew had anything to eat of drink so I went to the nurses station and asked if he could have something. I was a little frustrated that they hadn't already gotten him something, but I know they are busy. The neurologist came in a little bit later and told us that all of his tests/scans came back normal. She said his brain looked really healthy and that the only thing she could see was his blood pressure was a little above average and that is was a little anemic, but neither of those would cause the TIA symptoms, and that it could be complex migraines. We were once again, so relieved but so confused. We wanted to know the cause of it, but also wanted everything to come back clear and normal. So she released him and told us to follow up with his primary doctor and an outpatient neurologist.

So here we are today, he has gone a week without any TIA symptoms. He had a few dizzy spells, but we think that was from taking the blood pressure medicine on an empty stomach. We have changed our diet a bit, eating healthier/low sodium foods and drinking a ton of water! During all of the scariness (Wednesday through Monday) Matthew lost around 16 pounds, that was definitely not by choice, but out of being completely terrified of what could be wrong. We are still eating healthier options and I picked up every Mrs. Dash seasoning our Wal Mart carried :) We have a follow up appointment with his outpatient neurologist in two weeks and we are anxious to hear what he has to say about everything. As much as we aren't supposed to, we have both done a ton of research (Hello Web MD, just kidding, I try to avoid that website as much as possible) on the symptoms he was having and what in the world could be causing it. From what we found, it sounds just like complex migraines. There are medications for them so he won't have anymore TIA symptoms, but that of course, all depends on what the outpatient neurologist has to say.

To say we are relieved/thankful that all his test/scans (3 CT scans, 3 EKG's, 1 full body MRI, heart ultrasound, throat ultrasound, and blood work) came back clear would be a huge understatement!
A huge thank you to Matthew's parents, they helped us out so, so much, and we probably would have lost our minds if it weren't for them! Both of our jobs were completely understandable about our time off, and told us to take as long as we needed. I absolutely loved that Matthew's job told him to make his health and whatever he needed to do to get better his number one priority. It's still busy season for Matthew, so I know missing work stressed him out to no end, but it is so reassuring to know they fully supported him. Our friends and family were great, too. Checking in often, and our outreach minister from church came to visit us while we were in the hospital. We are so incredibly blessed to be surrounded by precious family and friends. Thank you for all your sweet words on Friday, we appreciated them all!

THE MARRIAGE DIARIES VOL. 7

It's fun to look back on what we were doing this time last year. I was knee deep in wedding planning and Matthew was starting to get in his groove at work. He had started back in January so he spent a good part of "busy season" learning and growing at his firm. I was coming home every weekend from Cookeville to wedding plan, see him, and my family. I think I spent almost every weekend last spring (and summer before the wedding) wedding planning/crafting. It was an exciting time and I am so thankful I was able to experience the rush and excitement that wedding planning brings, but my goodness, I am thankful it is over! And I mean that in the most positive way possible. I don't know how some of you ladies handle being engaged a year or longer. It was fun, but being married is 1000 times better.

It's crazy looking back at last year, planning for our wedding and lives to start together, and looking at where we are now, newlyweds and just purchased our first home together. I get so excited thinking about what, Lord Willing, all will be going on next year at this time.

Spring is one of my FAVORITE times of the year. Partly because everything is warming up and looking alive again and partly because spring time is when Matthew and I started talking and hanging out. It all started at his birthday in March of 2010 and we've been together every since. I love seeing posts on Timehop of my statuses or pictures I posted on Facebook (Instagram wasn't around back then!) From March of 2010 to May when we "officially" started dating all the love song lyrics were directed towards my sweet man. Cheesy as it was, that was "the thing" to do. ;) I get so tickled because 2010 me had no idea the guy I was crushing on and posting cheesy Facebook statuses about would my HUSBAND by 2015. God has just proven to me, over and over, that everything that happens in our lives is apart of His plan. Things might not happen exactly when we want it or how we want it to, but whatever does happen has been and is apart of His plan all along. Whenever I think of all this one of my favorite verses comes to mind.

I may or may not have gotten really emotional the other night driving through our neighborhood to our house. I still can't believe this is real life- we're married and we own our very first home together! The Lord has been SO good to us and we are so thankful. I hope and pray we always have this mindset. 7+ months of marriage has been so sweet, and my husband is the sweetest. I love being your wife, Matthew!

WEEKEND RECAP: HUSBAND'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

I love celebrating birthdays and I love celebrating my man. So Tuesday night I decided to surprise him for dinner. There is a Chinese takeout place that is really close to our apartment we used to live in and we would stop there every few weeks for dinner and Matthew loved that place. It was cheap and good! That place isn't too far out of my way home now so I decided to stop there and pick it up for dinner to surprise him. I pulled our kitchen table out on the patio because we don't have a patio set yet and because the weather was INCREDIBLE! I broke out the fancy dishes and had it ready for him when he got home. He even got home before it was dark and I was pumped!! So we ate dinner and just sat outside and talked until well after it was dark. I love those good conversations over dinner.

I mentioned last week that our best friends were in town for spring break so I got with them and we decided to have a small surprise birthday dinner for Matthew on Thursday night.
Fun fact: I have NEVER been able to surprise him with a birthday party/dinner. He usually doesn't know what all is planned but he always figures out I'm up to something. He called me when he got off and I was running around trying to get dinner together and he could tell something was up...lol I'm a terrible liar. I haven't given up hope yet though lol I'll surprise him one day!

I found that cute "celebrate" banner in Target's dollar section a few weeks ago!
For dinner I made Three Cheese Italian Rigatoni Pie and it turned out really good! That is the perfect dish to make for a small dinner party. We had 5 people and there was only a little bit leftover that I took for lunch the next day.
For dessert I made cookie dough cheesecake,
Matthew LOVES cheesecake. His groomsmen cake at our wedding was a chocolate cheesecake lol. He loves his mom's cheesecake, although I haven't mastered her's yet, I wanted to make a cheesecake. I found a cookie dough cheese cake through one of the Tasty videos and decided to make it. It was pretty good, definitely not his mom's cheesecake but it was still good. The crust is cookie dough and then I dropped balls of cookie dough on top before I baked it.
We played a game and sat around and chatted for awhile before calling it a night. They all stayed the night and it was our first time having a group of people spend the night. It was so fun!!

Friday, on Matthew's actual birthday, we went home to Murfreesboro after we both got off for the weekend. We celebrated Matthew and Nathan's birthday and his parent's 30th wedding anniversary!

The reaction I got when I tried to make a picture of the birthday boys...#twins

Nathan got a drone for his birthday so we all went outside to watch him fly it. He attached his GoPro to it and it was pretty interesting!

Their birthday cake!

And of course we got a group picture, it was the first time we had all been together since Christmas!

We made dinner for his parents to celebrate their anniversary. The boys grilled steaks and we had grilled zucchini, carrots, and green beans! It was all delicious. There was a lot of commotion going on in the kitchen, but it was so fun!!

The steaks were SO good

Sunday we went to church at our home congregation and it was good to see everyone again! We came back to his parents house and had crockpot roast and it was delicious.

It was a fun weekend and I had a blast celebrating Matthew all week and into the weekend. It was also warm all weekend and it made me SO excited for summer!!!! :)

FRIDAY NO. 9

Happy 24th birthday to my love, my heart, my better half and my best friend, Matthew. What a privilege it is to walk alongside you for another year of your life! I know you better than anyone, and yet I am still discovering new depths to the goodness in your heart. You are a great man, a great friend, and a great husband, worthy of every ounce of my honor, admiration, respect and celebration, today and every day. I am so proud of who you already are and the man you are becoming. Keeping this covenant with you is my life's greatest adventure, and I see The Lord's faithfulness through you every single day. You are an absolute treasure, and I love you more than anything in the whole world. I hope to celebrate YOU all the days of our life. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

THE MARRIAGE DIARIES VOL. 3

This is a few days late, but I thought it would be fun to share Vol. 3 today...we've been married 100 days today. For the past 100 days I haven't woken up without him beside me. It's funny how we've fallen into routines and the new normal. I remember our first week back from our honeymoon and waking up each morning beside him before work. It was strange and so different, but I loved it (and still loving it!), and now I can't imagine waking up and Matthew not being there.
100 days of morning talks together while he gets ready for work, one of my favorite moments each day.

I've been describing each month in one or two words, I don't know if I'll do that every month, but I will continue that for this month. So if I had to describe our third month of marriage it would be: Thankful. There have been so many moments where I have just stopped and became so overwhelmed with thankfulness. Thankful for Matthew, thankful for his friendship, thankful for his forgiveness, thankful for his selflessness, thankful for our jobs, thankful for our apartment, thankful for two families becoming one through our marriage, and thankful for this sweet life we are building together.

We've shared meals together, lazy nights watching our favorite shows, driving around looking at houses for "someday" (one of our favorite things to do!), uncontrollable laughter, prayers, tag teaming the dishes, furniture projects, silly moments, and sweet moments. We've also shared disagreements, compromises and long talks. We've failed to communicate, and annoyed each other. We've loved so deeply and failed to love at some moments. Just like month two, we are still adjusting and learning to compromise, and I plan on doing that, Lord willing, for the rest of our lives together.

I have a lump in my throat as I type this because my husband is falling asleep beside me. We've been married for over three months now and I still can't get over the fact that this is my reality. Thankful, so incredibly thankful.

CPA

Today Matthew officially becomes a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and I am SO proud of him!

If you remember during the summer of 2014 Matthew was among the first class at Tennessee Tech to take the "fast pass" and studied and sat for all four parts, and passed every one of them on the first try. He ended up being the only one from that class to pass all four parts that summer. It didn't come easy, and he sacrificed a lot of events that summer to study for them. He was studying anywhere from 8 to 10 hours a day, 6 to 7 days a week. We had many library date nights, celebrated with ice cream each time he passed a part and celebrated big when he got his last score in. It was a crazy, busy summer but it was worth it and I know he is SO relieved to have that behind him. If you aren't familiar with how intense the CPA exams are, most people have compared them to sitting for the bar.

So yes, we will CELEBRATE today! We started with breakfast this morning and will continue for dinner tonight before church. I ran by Panera yesterday morning and got his favorite bagel and kept it in a sealed zip lock bag to keep it fresh until this morning, because I knew if I tried to leave the apartment early this morning he would have known exactly what I was doing lol.

I printed these off yesterday and taped them to some books this morning while he was getting ready for work...so creative, I know ;)

Cinnamon crunch bagels toasted from Panera with plain cream cheese is his absolute favorite! And starting today he gets to add CPA to his title! We will be needing to get him some updated business cards!

Today is a big day full of celebrations in the Coats' apartment, and I am one proud wife!!

5 on Friday

I promise I will finish our wedding recaps next week, but since this week has been crazy I'll be joining in with 5 on Friday today.

ONE // This is our last "free" weekend until the end of October. Between a bachelor party, a concert, and weddings we are going to be busy and surrounded by family and friends, and WE CAN"T WAIT! Next Thursday afternoon when I get off is when it alllll starts and I am so excited. So this weekend we are going to get a lot of things done around town and at our apartment. Fingers crossed we get that last dining room chair painted lol.

TWO // In 15 days I will be going to the Ben Rector concert with my sister here in Nashville and we are counting down the days! We saw him back in 2013 when he came to Nashville, but missed his show last year. I completely missed when his tickets went on sale for the show on the 9th, but about flipped out when I found out they added another night because his first show sold out SO quickly. The day they went on sale I was at my computer, logged in, had our card information in, and had them in my cart ready to be bought. Matthew knew how important these were to me so he text me as soon as they went on sale and said he had been doing the same thing and had two in his cart to be purchased if I wasn't able to get them in time. SO, SO sweet of him!! Don't worry we didn't buy two sets of tickets lol. I told him I already had them and he cancelled out of his. I surprised my sister the following weekend with them because I just couldn't wait any longer. My sister and I love his music and listen to it ALL the time. Ben Rector was probably 85% of our wedding playlist, and I still listen to it every.single.day. He is just so good!
Fingers crossed we get to move seats like last time ;)

THREE // As soon as my best friend's wedding is over I am getting a much needed haircut! I love when my hair gets long but goodness, it's so thick and so much to deal with. I've been rocking the low messy buns a lot these past few weeks! It NEEDS to be cut, so many dead ends, it's embarrassing.
Here is what I'm thinking, length wise.

FOUR // We used out crockpot yesterday for the first time and it was literally like a whole new experience lol. I have used my old crockpot plenty of times but this one is just wonderful. We got it for our wedding and love it! I'll be sharing the recipe next week, but if you are following me on Instagram, then you should have already been able to get the recipe.

FIVE // Thanks to Ashley over at Hanging with the Hirsts I was informed by some of her previous posts that Target had their shoes buy one get on 50% off. I have been looking for some nude shoes for Kathleen's wedding next weekend and found these
they are only $16.99 and since they were buy one get one 50% off I grabbed these, too!
My sister bought the tan pair last fall and I absolutely LOVED them and wore them when I came home, so I knew they would go with most of my outfits and how they feel. I love wearing flats and love this tan color. They are really comfy and don't leave my feet aching after wearing them all day.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

The Marriage Diaries Vol. 1

July 18th was exactly one month ago today. I've been a wife for 31 days.
Sometimes it is still hard to wrap my head around the fact that we are married but then again I am loving every second of it. I though I would do these "Marriage Diaries" as little updates each month throughout our first year. I want to always remember the little things and always be able to come back and read about our first year together. I know once kids get thrown into the mix of already busy lives (in the future) then it will be so nice to remember when it was just us and starting out as newlyweds! So if this makes you want to puke then just skip over these each month ;)

If I had to describe our first month it would be:
The busiest month with a lot of hard work and fun times mixed in, all while doing it all together.
Hard work: Moving the rest of my stuff out of my Cookeville apartment and unpacking it all. Also unpacking all of our wedding gifts and organizing where everything goes. We ended up getting a lot of presents at our wedding and still mailed to us after the wedding. We are SO blessed by all of our sweet family and friends who have shown so much love for us through this season of life.
Fun times: Just being able to do everything with Matthew and knowing that I get to come home to him after a long day made all that moving and unpacking okay. Dancing in the kitchen, taking a break from the unpacking to watch a movie, making little Target trips at the last minute to grab something, just riding around with the windows down and talking about our future and where we want to be in a year, encouraging each other, those sweet goodbye kisses each morning as he walks out the door. I'm telling you, it is all fun, even the not so fun moving, is fun when we are together and working as a team.

I love the silly moments where Matthew has me doubled over in tears from laughing so hard that remind me marriage is a GOOD thing. I love the serious moments that remind me that Jesus and His will always come first. I love the sweet moments that make me tear up and fill me with so much thankfulness and remind me that this marriage is the sweetest gift.

We have been attending a new church, one that is closer to where we live now. So far we are loving it. They have a young married class that we have been going to and I am SO excited about it. Our first Sunday back from our honeymoon was the start of a new quarter so we haven't missed any lessons. I loved coming in on the very beginning so we weren't clueless as to what we would be studying. Our teacher is great and is very knowledgeable. We joined their Facebook group and I about died, I was so excited lol. They have girl's and guy's night and then have group outings that we are looking forward to attending. Also, they are having a marriage retreat this October. Y'all, I am so excited about this I can't even stand it. I have already been praying over the retreat and whoever our speakers are going to be. I love retreats and I love marriage!

I have absolutely loved watching Matthew transition into his role as a husband. He has done it with grace and the best attitude. He leads, he serves, he protects, and he comforts all while being the sweetest man on the face of this planet. Now I'm not too naive to think it's going to be rainbows and butterflies the rest of our lives, but it's nice knowing that when the going gets tough I'm going to have Matthew by my side. This whole being on the same team thing is kinda the best thing...ever.

Marriage is fun, being newlyweds is fun, making our apartment a home is fun, cooking together is fun. Life in general right now is just fun. I keep thinking to myself THIS is finally happening and THIS is real life. I remember during the end of our dating years I was getting pretty impatient thinking we were never going to get engaged and then married, and that time was moving so slow, but now looking back, I wouldn't change that time for the world. Our timeline leading up to us getting married was perfect and perfectly laid out by God. Everything happened at the right time and place and it's becoming more and more evident to me that it was all apart of God's plan.

I promise these won't be as long each month, this first month has just been so, so sweet. Can we just be newlyweds forever?!  Matthew, thank you for being the best husband, for working so hard for us, for making me laugh all the time, and for choosing me. I'm honored everyday that the title of "Matthew Coats' wife" is mine.

I was going to post this yesterday on our actual "one month", but there were more important things to post about. I checked their Facebook's a little bit ago and there weren't any new updates. Still in constant prayer for the Waldron family and hope that you are, too.

From first wedding gift to flat tire

This past weekend was a fun one! I spent time with my family on Friday night. We went to dinner and then walked around the square! I absolutely love our little square in my hometown. During the summers they have the farmers market there, and in the winter it's where they place a huge Christmas tree and light it up. There are all kinds of events that take place up there and a ton of cute stores and restaurants on it. The weather was great so we enjoyed just walking around and talking

Saturday afternoon I went to a spring tea with Matthew's mom for his grandmother. She lives in an assisted living home and every year in the spring they have a spring tea for all the women there, and they get to invite female family members. This year was my fourth year going and I have really enjoyed them. I love seeing all the cute elderly ladies that live there get all excited and dressed up for it. All of the ladies that live there got to pick a rose out to take back with them to their room and she had me pick out which one I liked best. I chose pink because it matched my dress!

When I got to Matthew's house to meet his mom to go to the tea he told me we had a wedding present waiting for us to open...Our FIRST wedding present!!!!! How exciting!!!!!
We were so excited to open it that we didn't think about taking a picture so we went back and recreated opening our first present lol

The silverware we picked out! My aunt and uncle from Michigan sent them to us since they won't be able to make it down to the bridal shower, so sweet! We are so thankful for sweet and caring family members. What a fun first gift!! :)

Saturday night my family had our first cookout of the summer...there is nothing better than a good ole cookout with your family! Daddy grilled some delicious burgers and we had carrot cake for dessert...YUM!

Sunday after church I decided to run by Jimmy Johns and grab a salad wrap. I have been OBSESSED with these delicious things. SO good and SO much better for me than all that bread, even though Jimmy Johns has some of the best bread...period. We are having our engagement pictures taken ONE week from this Sunday so no bread for me these next two weeks!
Anyways, while I was there I must have ran over something because as soon as I pulled into my driveway my tire pressure light came on and advised me of low tire pressure. That has happened before so I honestly didn't think anything of it until I parked on our patio and got out. That's when I heard it and saw it, the air was definitely leaking out...quickly.

I went inside to get my dad and he came out and put the spare tire on for me. So handy, seriously he knew exactly what to do- good thing because I had NO idea. They should teach that in high school or something.

After he put the spare tire on we looked on the old tire and found what I ran over...
We have no idea what that is other than a piece of sharp plastic...gross!

Daddy told me I couldn't go over 50 mph with the spare tire on. I didn't think it would be too hard until later that afternoon. We were on the way to church and we were on 840 which is a state hwy. The speed limit is 70. Matthew drove behind me with his flashers on but it was just too dangerous, and I knew it would be even worse driving on the actual interstate, at night, trying to get back to Cookeville. I called my mom and she met me and took my car and I took my dad's truck. He took my car to the shop on Monday morning for me so they could put a new tire on and I drove his truck and came home on Monday afternoon to switch back. I am so thankful for my parents!! They helped me a lot and I really appreciated it!!

Wedding Planning + A New Car

This weekend was pretty busy.
Friday night was great until I got completely lost...we'll get to that in a minute.
I mentioned Friday that we were going to have a singing night in a cave (Cumberland Caverns). We got there and started singing and it was INCREDIBLE. There aren't many words to describe it. I am just so glad we were able to go and do this. We had a really good size group go, too!
I drove to the caves instead of taking the bus so that I could just drive home after.
Long story short I have no idea where my GPS wanted me to go but it took me down a bunch of back roads and I ended up going in a complete circle a couple of times. I hit the same possum, twice. Got pulled over and completely lost it in front of the cop because I was so stressed out from being lost. The poor thing probably thought I was a basket case, and decided to just let me go. I finally made it home about an hour and a half later than it should have taken me, and crashed as soon as I hit my pillow that night.
I have gotten turned around plenty of times while trying to get somewhere but I have never been completely lost like I was Friday night. I have always depended on the GPS on my phone but now I am having some trust issues with it!!

Saturday, I woke up in a better mood than Friday night. Thank goodness!!
My parents had bought my sister a new car as an early birthday/graduation gift. The car she has been driving was my old car I had all through high school. It was O L D, had way too many miles on it, and sounded like it was fixing to fall apart. She will be commuting abour 45 minutes to and from for college in the fall so they knew there was no way her car was going to make it.
My dad got it last Wednesday and kept it hidden at our Nannie's house in her garage until Saturday!
Saturday he brought it home to give it to her. He asked her to come outside and help him get something out of his truck and when she walked around the side of the house there it was! I got her reaction all on camera and it was priceless!
It's a used car but it has low mileage and my parents got a good price on it!

Later that day all the groomsmen were coming to town to get their suits for the wedding sized and ordered. Matthew's dad grilled hamburgers for everyone and his mom fixed dessert! We all headed to Men's Warehouse after to pick out everything. Matthew had picked the suit out online already and it was buy one get one free. So the $500 suit was now $250 for all of them. This is the same Men's Warehouse where Matthew's family always gets their suits so they know the guy there and he is always so much of a help to them. Well, he ended up knocking down the prices of the suits to $199 each! So our guys are buying a $500 suit for $199 for our wedding, and the best part...they get to keep it!!
We decided not to go the renting route because all of the groomsmen will wear this suit again, for work or to church, so it was just smarter for them to buy than to rent it! We also picked out the ties. I wish I had gotten a picture to share but everything was happening so quickly that I wasn't able to.
I am very relieved that we were able to get all 6 groomsmen in at the same time and able to get that checked off the list!

117 DAYS!!!!!!
