Wedding Planning + A New Car

This weekend was pretty busy.
Friday night was great until I got completely lost...we'll get to that in a minute.
I mentioned Friday that we were going to have a singing night in a cave (Cumberland Caverns). We got there and started singing and it was INCREDIBLE. There aren't many words to describe it. I am just so glad we were able to go and do this. We had a really good size group go, too!
I drove to the caves instead of taking the bus so that I could just drive home after.
Long story short I have no idea where my GPS wanted me to go but it took me down a bunch of back roads and I ended up going in a complete circle a couple of times. I hit the same possum, twice. Got pulled over and completely lost it in front of the cop because I was so stressed out from being lost. The poor thing probably thought I was a basket case, and decided to just let me go. I finally made it home about an hour and a half later than it should have taken me, and crashed as soon as I hit my pillow that night.
I have gotten turned around plenty of times while trying to get somewhere but I have never been completely lost like I was Friday night. I have always depended on the GPS on my phone but now I am having some trust issues with it!!

Saturday, I woke up in a better mood than Friday night. Thank goodness!!
My parents had bought my sister a new car as an early birthday/graduation gift. The car she has been driving was my old car I had all through high school. It was O L D, had way too many miles on it, and sounded like it was fixing to fall apart. She will be commuting abour 45 minutes to and from for college in the fall so they knew there was no way her car was going to make it.
My dad got it last Wednesday and kept it hidden at our Nannie's house in her garage until Saturday!
Saturday he brought it home to give it to her. He asked her to come outside and help him get something out of his truck and when she walked around the side of the house there it was! I got her reaction all on camera and it was priceless!
It's a used car but it has low mileage and my parents got a good price on it!

Later that day all the groomsmen were coming to town to get their suits for the wedding sized and ordered. Matthew's dad grilled hamburgers for everyone and his mom fixed dessert! We all headed to Men's Warehouse after to pick out everything. Matthew had picked the suit out online already and it was buy one get one free. So the $500 suit was now $250 for all of them. This is the same Men's Warehouse where Matthew's family always gets their suits so they know the guy there and he is always so much of a help to them. Well, he ended up knocking down the prices of the suits to $199 each! So our guys are buying a $500 suit for $199 for our wedding, and the best part...they get to keep it!!
We decided not to go the renting route because all of the groomsmen will wear this suit again, for work or to church, so it was just smarter for them to buy than to rent it! We also picked out the ties. I wish I had gotten a picture to share but everything was happening so quickly that I wasn't able to.
I am very relieved that we were able to get all 6 groomsmen in at the same time and able to get that checked off the list!

Friday Ramblings

Happy Friday!
Since I have a lot to share I'll share in list form
- Tonight I am going with the SOC to The Cumberland Caverns for a singing. I haven't been there since I was in the 5th grade so I am excited to go and see it again. Even better, a singing night, if y'all have been around here then you KNOW singing nights are my favorite.
Singing in a cave...can y'all imagine how that's going to sound?!
Here are some pictures I found online of Cumberland Caverns
- We are going Saturday to pick out the groomsmen suits! Well, we already have them picked out we are just going to get them. They are on sale at Men's Warehouse so they are getting a pretty good deal!
- Matthew and I HAVE to get our passports this weekend. I don't know why we but we just keep forgetting about them.
- I am hoping to finalize our guest list by the end of next week, so I am going to work on it this weekend when I get some free time. I designed them and we are having them printed through Vistaprint and they are having a good sale going on. I have already priced them and with this sale we can get our invitations and RSVP for over $100 cheaper so we will be ordering them before this sale is over! Also,Vistaprint sends plain white envelopes for free!
-The weather this weekend is supposed to be really nice and I am so looking forward to that! Bring on that warmer weather and sunshine!!!!
- HAPPY 1ST DAY OF SPRING!!
Can't wait to break out my sandals and white pants :)
- Today is food day at work, and this months is a salad bar. I am a little too excited about this! Currently counting down the minutes until it's my lunch LOL
- P-Hood (what Matthew and I call it) or also known as Parenthood...we are obsessed!!
I remembered hearing a lot about it back in January when the finale aired so over the snow days I decided to start watching it. As of last night I am in the middle of season FOUR! It is so good and I got Matthew hooked on it, too! I usually can't get through an episode without tearing up lol
- Kirkland's...I can't stay out of that store!!!! We bought a mirror there this past week and it was on sale! I absolutely love it and can't wait to get it hung up! I'll share more on that next week! :)
Have a good weekend!!

Zumba + Smoothie King

Tuesday night we had our SOC girls night and it was so fun!!
My old roommate became a certified Zumba instructor over Christmas break and offered to instruct a class for us for a girls night. So Zumba class it was!

Surprisingly, this was my first Zumba class. I definitely feel like I got a workout and really enjoyed it!! Bri had great songs and moves and kept us going the whole class!!

After some of us went to Smoothie King. I had never been there either so I wanted to try it. It took me about 5 minutes to order because I had no idea what I wanted or what I would like. Here lately I have been on a pineapple kick so I went with the Pineapple Surf. Seriously one of the best drinks I have ever had. I saw they have 32oz for $5 on Fridays so I am going back tomorrow to grab one for lunch!

Last night we walked out of church and the snow was coming down and everything was starting to turn white. We decided to still have our late night singing. Everyone headed over to the SOC house and we had yet another incredible singing. After the singing we all went outside and everything was completely white. Absolutely beautiful. There ended up being a snowball fight and of course pictures that needed to be taken ;)
This snow is definitely the kind of snow everyone wants. Perfect to build a snowman and snowballs, but you can still drive on it!

My drive to work this morning.
As ready as I am for summer and warmer weather, you just can't help but realize how beautiful this is. I left early this morning in case the roads were bad but they were just slushy. I was able to take my time and not rush. It was a very peaceful drive with a pretty great view.

Fall Retreat 2014

This past weekend we went on fall retreat with the SOC. I promise it felt like Christmas morning when I woke up last Friday. 1. It was freezing in my apartment 2. because I knew we were leaving that day for retreat!!!!

There is just something SO refreshing and encouraging about being away, with hardly any cell phone reception, with your brothers and sisters in Christ for a WHOLE weekend! Plus, being in one of the most beautiful places!!!! We went to Camp Discovery, which is about 45 mins away from Cookeville. We had over 70 people this year. 70!!!!! We had to take 3 vans and some people drove up separately as well.

We had a "stress session" the girls and guys split up into separate groups. There were rules though which I thought were appropriate:
-Don't talk about someone that's not there to defend themselves.
-You are a Christian, act like it (no gossiping or tattling)
-It's not a confession session (don't feel the need to confess all of the things you have ever done wrong)
At first none of the girls really wanted to say anything but then someone said something and then everyone started. It was so good!
Galatians 6:2 tells us to "Bear one another's burdens" and that is exactly what we did.
There were tears and there was laughter but mostly there was encouragement. I have never been more proud to be apart of such a great group of girls.

I left Camp Discovery feeling closer to all those sweet girls and refreshed!

The girls!

It was the best weekend, with the best people, at the best place!

Weekend: 3 things

This past weekend was good. So good an of course I didn't want it to end!
Just like everyone else, I can't believe it's already September!! I feel like it should still be February or March. This year is flying by and in a way I am sad to see it go and in a way I am excited. There are so many exciting things coming up.

1.  My parents were out of town for the holiday weekend, they made their annual anniversary trip to Gatlinburg. So it was just a sister weekend. It was fun and a relaxing weekend at home!
It consisted of :
Disney movies
milkshakes
"sleepovers"
naps
laundry
crafts

The youngest two call it a sleepover when I come home. They think it is the best thing ever to have a "sleepover" in their own home an usually in their own beds lol.

2.  Also, this weekend I worked on cornhole boards for the SOC. One of the post grad guys made them a couple of years ago and they look great! I took them home to paint them and put the SOC logo on them.

I'm so excited to finish them this weekend!!

3.  I finally caved and ordered Spark...
I have heard only good things about this drink and so far I am LOVING it!
I ordered it in fruit punch flavor and it's great! I'll definitely post more about it later!

updates + announcement!!

These past couple of weeks have been hectic but I am loving every minute of it!
All last week we were preparing for the semester to start back up and with the fall semester starting up comes welcome week. Thursday was Tech's great move in day. All the freshmen move into their dorm and there are a TON of activities going on. Last year I was able to be there and it was my first time to experience great move in day and I loved it!! Literally so much excitement all in one day. This year I had to work but thankfully we were slow enough and I was able to get off for the day at 10:00! I was SO excited and headed straight to the SOC house to help.

-We had our first event of the semester, Refuel, on the president's lawn.
Then headed back to the SOC house for singing and a short devo
The SOC house on great move in day!

-There were activities over the weekend but we went home for my sisters birthday! Can we just talk about how grown up she looks?!?!? She is 11 going on 18!

-Monday the SOC had a scavenger hunt across campus. I love scavenger hunts but it was SO hot.
Here is one of our tasks, take a picture in Sherlock park, there was a hashtag written in the sand, you just can't really see it lol. #struggling
Then we went back to the SOC house that night and had a huge game of volleyball

-I run the SOC Instagram and Twitter and love it. I think it's a great way for new students to see what we are all about through pictures and it helps keep them updates on upcoming events!

-Matthew hasn't been able to attend as many events as he would like to due to the fact that he has been studying non-stop. You know it's crunch time when he can't even leave the library for dinner. We had a lil 30 min date in a study room of the Tech's library :)

**I am also THRILLED to say that Matthew and I have been asked to be student coordinators for the SOC. We were asked back in May and have been working to get everything ready for this year and will continue working for the SOC. The SOC holds a special place in my heart, and I am beyond excited for this opportunity to help grow the SOC and bring people to Christ, along with Scott, our campus minister and the other student coordinators.

Friday Favorites

1. This weather we have had lately. It got down to 57 the other night! It was actually a little chilly when I walked out of my apartment this morning to head to work. I'm not complaining though! I'm not ready for winter by any means but I am enjoying a little cool weather.

2. We are going to Chattanooga this weekend to visit Matthew's brother and I am so excited!
I just love these views :)

3. We had our last summer Refuel last night. Less than a week until all the students are back and all moved in for the fall semester and I am SO excited. This might just be one of my favorite times of the year. We have so many fun things planned and I can't wait to finally get everything started!!

4. I am playing softball again for the city and it's really fun! I haven't played in years so I am definitely rusty but I'm warming up a bit!

5. I have been collecting antique plates for awhile now and one of my friends was selling some and a got one of the best deals of my life on them. To say I am obsessed would be an understatement.
I'll post more about them next week but I though I'd leave y'all with a lil sneak peak of them. Seriously they are perfect and y'all are probably thinking I am a crazy lady for obsessing over antique plates, but I don't care lol.

A cleaning weekend

This past weekend was good. So good.
Friday night Matthew had to study so we grabbed a pizza at Marcos and then he went back to his apartment to study. I went to my apartment and started laundry and watching Friday Night Lights.
I picked up a little around the apartment and then six hours later I was almost finished with season three of Friday Night Lights and I had started and almost finished three new paintings. Yes, I watched six hours of Friday Night Lights and it was great. I love having some alone time every now and then and this was the first weekend we have been able to stay in Cookeville in over a month so it was just great.

Saturday I woke up in a cleaning mood which was good because it was cleaning day at the SOC house. We didn't have to be there until 10 to start cleaning, so I took advantage of that free time Saturday morning and deep cleaned my apartment and organized a little bit more.

We cleaned the SOC house for a good four hours and it looks A LOT better! We had a lot of help which was great and had everything ready for our cookout that afternoon. It was a cookout for returning students and new incoming students. The rain kept us inside, unfortunately but we still had a good time playing games and watching football. I am SO excited for school year to start back and for everyone to be back from summer break. We have a lot of fun things planned for the SOC and I am excited! Also, my two old roommates were back in Cookeville for the cookout and it was the first time we had all been together since May.

It was so good to have everyone back together again for a little bit!!
Sunday after church we went back to my apartment and had poppy seed chicken for lunch and it was delicious! Matthew went back to his apartment to study and I went grocery shopping and then last night we went to hear one of our friends preach and he did great!

As always this weekend went by way too quickly but it was a good one!!
