50's themed surprise party

This weekend went by very fast and it's probably because we were so busy but it was a good one!
For the past few months we have been planning a surprise birthday party for my nanny. She turned the big 75 this year and we decided to go all out. We decided to have a 50's themed party, since that was her favorite time. My mom worked her tail off planning this party and everything turned out great!
Friday night I came home and started helping decorate, we had the party in local church gym at home, which was perfect. The size was perfect and we had a kitchen to use and plenty of parking.

Saturday we got to the gym to finish some last minute decorating and to prep the food. Nanny was being picked up by some friends to "go to a jewelry party" at the church.
I haven't downloaded all my pictures from my camera yet so here are some Iphone pictures for the time being

Surprises and scary happenings

This week kinda flew by after my final on Tuesday night. As much as I love Friday's and the weekend I wish time would slow down. Here we are already 6 days into December and I'll blink and it will be January 1st.
Last night was a good one. We have been planning for the past few weeks on going home last night to surprise Matthew's mom for her birthday. One of her presents was a picture of her boys. Recreating pictures is very popular right now and their dad suggested they recreate one of her favorite pictures from when they were younger, and it was a GREAT idea and she loved it!
(sorry for the bad quality iPhone picture)

We had Mexican takeout and chocolate cake and enjoyed sitting around the table talking for a couple of hours. She was definitely surprised and we all had a good time!!
Matthew and I drove over to my house to see my family for a few minutes. I didn't tell them I was coming and it was a great surprise for them and it was good to see them as well!

My mom called me this morning and said they had a rough night. She said that around three this morning it was storming and then a little after that they heard the fire alarm going off and she and my sister went into Sam and Macy's (youngest two sisters) room to get them up and get them downstairs or outside if need be and their room was starting to fill up with smoke.
Thankfully there was no big fire just a small spark from the thermostat on the wall across from their room. My dad took the thermostat off the wall with gloves because it was too hot to touch and it was completely black and burned all in the wall and had been smoking in the attic.
My dad had someone come out and look at everything immediately this morning and the gentleman advised my dad that lightening struck the unit outside and went through the wiring to the thermostat.
Thankfully my family was home and that out fire alarms work. This was only a small incident compared to some family's who have recently lost everything due to a house fire but it was still scary for them. Unfortunately the system for the upstairs is out and the gentleman advised my dad that he would need to contact our insurance company to see what they want to do. I just spoke with my dad and he is about to head to town to get a couple of small and safe heaters since the temperatures are going to be dropping all day.
When you stop and really think about all that the things that I thought were somewhat problems really aren't a big deal AT ALL. So what someone pulled out in front of me this morning and decided to go 10 miles under the speed limit, so what I got caught in two school zones. Nothing that I have experienced this morning is bad but the thought of my house catching on fire with my family in it during the middle of the night is just sickening. We are too blessed to be worrying over the little things and far too blessed to think we have it bad.
Today, I urge you to really look around. Look at the house/apartment you live in and be thankful it is still standing and you have a roof over your head. Those warm clothes you are bundled up in, not everyone has them. The water bottle you walked 10 steps for to get out of your refrigerator? People are walking 10 miles for a bucket of water. All this is something we have heard before but it's nice to be reminded.
WE. ARE. ABUNDANTLY. BLESSED.

I hope you all have a great weekend and those of you that are experiencing this ice storm and I am praying for safe travels and that you aren't hit too hard. It is headed to Tennessee but I think Cookeville will be spared. I plan on staying in my pajamas most of Saturday catching up on the ole blog here and making some Christmas crafts that I have been wanting to make!
Also, congratulations to Emily on winning the Home State Tee giveaway!!

21st birthday celebrations!!

My birthday was last Tuesday and let me tell ya it was great!!
I absolutely love celebrating birthdays not just mine but everyone's, it is such a fun and exciting time.

Tuesday morning Matthew started out my birthday with a surprise...donuts!
We LOVE Big O's donuts here and it's a struggle not to go there everyday as I am passing by to go to work haha

and then Matthew couldn't wait any longer to give me my present so he made me close my eyes and hold out my hand and this is what I saw when I opened my eyes...

YA GIRL IS GOING TO SEE LUKE BRYAN IN NASHVILLE!!!!
With FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE and THOMPSON SQUARE!!!!!!!
dying.

Matthew and I saw Luke Bryan a couple of years ago at the CMA fest and I have loved him every since.

Matthew brought me and my friend Sarah lunch during our break. We all ate outside because the weather was great and who doesn't love a birthday picnic?

My beautiful flowers from my parents!

After work 10 of us met at El Tap for my birthday dinner!
I hardly knew most of them last year at this time, if you would have told me a year ago that I'd be celebrating my 21st with 10 people I hardly knew yet I never would have believed it. I have only been in Cookeville for a few months but I am so thankful for this precious group of friends that made me feel so surrounded and celebrated that night.

whip cream up my nose, gettin wild y'all (just kidding)

After church that night we all went back to my apartment and I opened my gifts and my Olivia made my key lime pie, woo hoo!! (THANK YOU OLIVIA, I know you are reading this)
This was her first time making it and it was delicious and it looked perfect!

After everyone left I got my roommate to make a picture of Matthew and I with my tickets...
the struggle was real y'all.
The lighting was bad too...boooo bad apartment lightening.

AND then when I thought all the celebrating was over Matthew threw me a surprise birthday lunch Saturday!
I woke up Saturday and planned on going and getting my first pair of chacos, I had a coupon and got a student discount so I was pretty excited.

Matthew asked if I wanted to come over for lunch, he was grilling some chicken. Grilled chicken is my FAV. So I told him I would be over there after I got my new shoes, haha. I drove over to his apartment and saw my roommates car at his apartment.
HOLD UP.

So I go inside and everyone is sitting around and they all yelled surprise!
We had fresh salad, grilled chicken, baked potato, green beans and rolls...hands down my FAVORITE meal. Then brownies!

THANK YOU Matthew for everything! This was by far one of the best birthdays I've had and you did so much to make it special and I appreciated it all.
LOVE YOU

Over all my 21st birthday was AMAZING!
I loved every minute celebrating with my friends!!

I'm baaaaack

I wasn't gone long but it feels like I haven't been on here in forever!! So much has happened in the past few days between Matthew's birthday and our little road trip! (I will post about our trip to Memphis soon.)
With all that being said spring break is almost over, so so sad :(
Most of you read my post on Monday about Matthew's birthday (he enjoyed reading all the comments, btw!) and now I can finally share with y'all about what all I had planned out for us that day!!
Sunday night Matthew finally talked me into letting him have one gift at 12:00 a.m. and I was just too excited to wait any longer so I left him have his biggest gift first...

Matthew hates surprises and hates waiting. He will ask a million and one questions to find out what is going on. (hence the early birthday present) Just one of the many reason why I love my man!
I had checked the weather a few days before and it was supposed to be really nice. Well the night before I checked and it called for 100% rain.
the one time the weather man was actually right.
I woke up pretty early and put together the last little things for his presents and headed over to his house.
I got to his house and made breakfast for him and his brothers. Nothing like some sugar breakfast to start his birthday, huh?

After breakfast he got one of his "hint" presents. I had found an adorable idea on Pinterest and knew I had to use it on his birthday...a golfing date

The first hint was

Later I took him to lunch at Olive Garden. I didn't tell him where we were going so of course he asked where we were going about 30 times. I had fun with his questions and had him believing we were going out of town for lunch, ha!
Lunch was delicious and my view ^ was great ;)

After lunch he got his second hint...

We caught the one o'clock showing of 21 & Over

just in case you haven't seen the previews.
A very funny movie and the title seemed fitting since he was turning 21, right?

After the movie he got his last hint...I think by the first gift he got it, ha!

All his hints were supposed to lead us to the golfing range for him to hit some but as the weather man said 100% rain and the weather man was right so he is taking a rain check on that.

So we just headed back to his house to hangout and relax. I was having a "family dinner" that night and decided to leave his house around 5 that afternoon.
Only I didn't go home I headed to the mall to meet his twin brothers girlfriend. I picked her up and we met another friend at good ole Dairy Queen and I picked up the ice cream cake.

Yep, you know what that means...
Surprise birthday dinner!!

Everyone got there between 6:45 and 7:00 and the birthday boys and their parents and older brother came for their "family birthday dinner" around 7:15

The birthday boys!!

My favorite picture :)

Despite the nasty weather it was a great day and I loved celebrating my handsome man.
