FRIDAY NO. 32

I feel like I can officially say that fall is here in Nashville! It was a very cool and crisp 55 degrees on my way to work this morning and yesterdays high only reached 64. Which is crazy because Thursday of last week was a high of 91! It does look like it's going to warm back up a bit next week, but I'm hoping the humidity stays low. I also can't believe today is the last day of September. September FLEW by for me!

Last night I went to my sister's softball game and completely forgot to bring a jacket or sweater, so it was a very chilly night. They played great, but sadly lost by one point. Such a close game though!!

Different couples in our class at church host an activity each month for everyone in our class, well this month it's our turn to host, and our event is tonight! We reserved the youth building at our church and we're having a movie/game night. We are showing Nemo for the kiddos, and I found some nemo coloring pages for them. We are having pizza and I found some cute Nemo themed snacks to have as well. For the adults we will be playing the game Fibbage. We are so excited and can't wait until tonight!

I am in the process of creating my own planner for 2017, and I am a little too excited about it. This past year I decided not to spend a big amount on a planner like I have in the past and grabbed one from Target for around $12. I like it and the size of it, but I wish it had a little more to it. So when I saw Blair's post on how she created her own planner using Canva and Office Depot I was very intrigued. I made a list of all the things I wanted in a planner and started sketching how I wanted it to look. I then took to Canva to make my drawings come to life and I am thrilled with how it's looking so far! Not only will I be saving money, but I will have a planner tailored to my personal needs. YAY! Here is a look at the calendar I created the other day for my planner...

Yesterday our sweet puppy turned 1 month old, and just in a couple of weeks we will get to bring her home!!!! We are so stinkin' excited and talk about her everyday!!!! Would you just look at this adorable face...

If you missed our fall home tour, you can see it HERE! I'm enjoying everything fall right now, if you couldn't tell ;)

Also, this adorable wreath I posted about on Wednesday, that I will be sharing with you all on Monday...will come with a coupon code!!! Woo hoo! I know cotton wreaths and cotton stalks are very popular this fall and I have loved seeing them around in people's houses, so you won't want to miss out on the coupon code!

One last thing....tomorrow is the first home (preseason) Pred's game and we are going with some friends. Hockey is BACK! They shared this on their Facebook page yesterday and I couldn't help but get pumped for hockey season.

OUR FAMILY IS GROWING BY 4 PAWS

We are so excited, because we have adopted a sweet puppy!!!!
I still can't believe we did it and we can't wait to bring our pup home in LESS that a month...yay!

A little back story on how we decided to adopt our pup....last year in November Matthew started looking at puppies. His puppy fever was sparked when we stopped at Puppy Zone and played with puppies on our way home from our weekend in the mountains together. Matthew had an instant connection with an ADORABLE shih poo, but the price tag on that adorable shih poo was not acceptable. So he looked up breeders in and around Nashville and found one that had great reviews, and for weeks he tried to talk me into getting one...he even sent me the funniest texts trying to talk me into it. At the time we were on the third floor of our apartment complex and I knew that we would have a time going up and down three flights of stairs while potty training AND there would be a pet fee for our apartment, so while it was pretty hard, I didn't give in to these kinds of texts from my hilarious husband...
I somehow convinced him to wait until we bought a house. Well after we bought our house and got somewhat settled the puppy fever hit me...and at this point Matthew wanted to get settled fully in our home and do some house projects before we adopted a pup. So then I started looking at breeders and sending him adorable puppy texts lol. We finally talked about it and then both decided to wait until May of 2017. May is right after busy season ends for Matthew and it would be starting to warm up outside...seemed like perfect timing for us.

Then my parents got an adorable puppy and we puppy sat a couple of times. We loved it and we loved having a puppy in our home, and missed her when she went back home! Then my BIL got an adorable pup and the puppy fever was back and in full force for the the both of this time! We threw around the idea of getting a puppy, but wanted to still take our time and make sure this is what we really wanted to do at this time. We said if we came across any then we would talk about it then...well a couple of days later Matthew decided to check the breeder that he had found back in November just to see, and for the first time since last November, she had some shih poo's available..and she just posted their pictures on their website that morning!!!! Matthew called me and asked my thoughts on it and we both agreed that it was all lining up to be the right time, so he called the breeder and the rest is history!
We got to visit her this past weekend and we FELL IN LOVE. We are so excited and can't wait to bring our sweet girl home!!!!!
Then she got a little sleepy...
 and was OUT

We have been doing tons of research and getting puppy tips and advice from my MIL and other friends. My birthday gift from my BIL and his girlfriend was a puppy bed filled with puppy toys, leash and collar, and puppy food! I was so excited! We also made our first of many, I'm sure, trips to PetSmart and recently purchased a puppy pin. It's so fun seeing a couple of puppy items in our home and knowing that's for OUR puppy!
While I was in Home Goods this weekend I browsed the pet aisle for the first time and found a ton of stuff I would have loved to purchase, but I refrained, and only bought a small basket to hold all of her toys.

We are excited to be fur parents!

FRIDAY NO. 31

This has been the longest week, but I am so glad it is finally Friday! We have an exciting weekend coming up and I can't wait to share everything with you all on Monday.

We are so thankful that Matthew has been feeling so much better this past week, The Lord is so good and we are so blessed. He's been feeling so good that he did a lot of yard work this week and then took down the trampoline in our backyard! Men...you can't keep them down for long ;) I am very thankful for him though!!

One of my favorite bloggers/blog friend, Ashley announced this morning that she is opening an embroidery business!! You can read all about it here and follow her new Instagram account here! So exciting and I can't wait to get some things monogrammed!!!!

Has anyone ever used Canva? I just discovered it the other day and I'm doing the 30 day free trial, but I am LOVING it so far. I am still trying to learn all about it and navigate my way around the website. Any tips or tutorials that y'all know of, send them my way!
Even though yesterday was the first day of fall it has been in the 90's and looks like it's not getting cooler anytime soon...so sad. I know the cooler weather is coming soon enough though, and before I know it I will be wishing it was summer again ;)

Another one of my favorite bloggers/blog friend, Kelsey posted the cutest tutorial vlog on how to make a fall centerpiece this week! I have the same pitcher and I am really wanting to switch up my fall centerpiece now! Go watch it and her other vlogs!!

See snaps of our weekend by following me on Snapchat!

Hope you all have a great weekend!!!

Woo hoo! It's the first day of fall and I am so excited for all things fall. Fall is here regardless of what the weather is like outside. ;) We've been enjoying our fall decor around our home since Labor Day Weekend, and I am snuggled up under a cozy blanket with our favorite fall candle burning away...with the AC still on full blast lol we are in Tennessee after all!

Here are some fall pins that I have been loving lately...you can find all of them on my Fall Board!

I have been obsessed with these adorable cotton wreaths...I mean how cute and fallish

I am hoping to share our fall decor next week with you all!

#THECOATSHOME : PAINTING OUR FRONT DOOR

When we moved into our home back in January we both agreed we didn't really care for the front door color. It was a dark gray but has faded over the years and there were scratches on it. It wasn't top priority but we knew it was something we wanted to complete sooner rather than later.

We thought about different colors over the past few months but never nailed anything down. I didn't really think Matthew would want to go for a bright or bold color, and I didn't really want anything too crazy either. We both wanted something simple and classy. I threw out the option of painting our door black. I looked at tons of black front doors and loved the simplicity of the color, and most wreaths would go with the color black...gotta think about these kinds of things! ;) Well Matthew wasn't too keen on the color black and knew that I liked some other colors as well so we kept looking at colors. Well when Blair posted the color that they painted their front door I loved it. Pretty, bright and classy! I casually showed Matthew the color one night after dinner, not thinking too much of it, and he loved it, and said that was the color for our front door. I'll admit, I was a little shocked, but excited he liked the color too and that we both agreed on it, so that was our color! We decided to paint our door over Labor Day Weekend.

We knew that taking our front door off would let in a lot of heat, obviously, so we started around 8 that morning in an attempt to try and beat the heat. Thankfully it was very sunny that morning so I painted in the open sun to dry the door quickly, and it worked! We decided to paint both sides of our door, and we are SO happy with it. We love being able to see the color on the inside as well. That pop of color in our entryway is so fun. After painting both sides, in total, we probably had our front door off for about 2 hours, not too bad!

Last year on Labor Day Weekend we gave our dining room table a makeover and this year we painted our front door...my inner Joanna Gaines is liking this tradition ;)

Before I stared painting I wiped down the entire door, both sides, with a damp rag. After it dried I sanded both sides lightly. I used a sanding sponge similar to these. I then wiped off both sides with a damp rag again, and then let it dry completely before I started painting.

I was very nervous for some reason when it came time to paint our door, I guess because I knew if I messed it up and it didn't turn out well then it would be the first thing everyone saw until we got a new front door...so just a little pressure! I looked up a ton of tutorials and YouTube videos, but really it wasn't hard at all. Once I got to painting it just kinda flowed and worked out great.

I will say, one thing I learned, is to use a small roller on the detailed areas. I started out using a brush, but decided the small roller worked better. I used a small roller from Lowe's like this one. I used a regular sized roller on the rest of the door, and I think that helped with making sure it was all even and smooth looking! I did two coats on each side and I think that was plenty.

I painted all sides of the door, except the top, since no one will see that area anyways! I used the small roller for the sides as well. Worked like a charm!

I know you can tape off your hardware (door handles) and such but since I despise taping anything we just took off our door handles until the paint was completely dry. It didn't take long and I didn't have to be extra careful in those area.

Our front door color is Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue, and we could not be happier with it!

WEEKENDING | BIRTHDAY EDITION

This weekend was so good! We got to see family and friends, rest, and be productive around the house. Hello fall deep cleaning!!

Friday night as soon as we got off we headed to Murfreesboro to meet some of Matthew's extended family for dinner. I have never met them and they haven't seen Matthew in years. They were passing though town so we all decided to have dinner together. Good food and good company! We stayed the night with Matthew's parents that night and woke up and fixed a big brunch Saturday morning.

My birthday was last weekend, but with Matthew's surgery we decided to wait and celebrate with my family the next weekend. Which worked out great, I wanted Matthew to take last weekend and rest as much as possible! But I do have to share that my sweet and thoughtful husband surprised me last weekend on my birthday with a delicious ice cream cake from DQ. He knew he would be down with his sinus surgery recovery over the weekend and my birthday, so he ordered the cake earlier that week and had his parents pick it up and we all ate cake that night. So sweet and such a fun surprise! Sadly, I forgot to take any pictures. He got me a new purse that I am loving, and I got many other goodies from his family. So sweet and I am loving it all!!

After brunch I went to my parents house and my mom and I headed out to get our nails done. A few years ago my mom started taking us girls to get pedicures on our birthday and it just became a tradition. It's a tradition that I love and really look forward to every year!!

I decided to also get my nails done since it has been almost a year since I had them professionally done and they were looking ROUGH. I chose a really cute fall color that I am obsessing over right now, OPI AmazON...AmazOFF

After we got our nails done we headed back home to change and get ready for dinner that afternoon. My dad's birthday is four days before mine so we have always celebrated our birthdays together, which I love! We all went to Cheddar's for our birthday dinner with the whole family, and my best friend, Sarah, came with us as well!
After dinner we went back to my parents house for cake and ice cream. For years my mom bought us store bought cakes, until finally one day my dad and I told her we like homemade cakes better lol. She was happy to save the money and just make them herself so for the past few years she has been making me a strawberry cake with chocolate icing- my favorite!

Sunday we woke up and went to church and lunch, and then came back to our house to take a Sunday nap!
After our nap we decided that we just really needed to make a Dairy Queen run for some blizzards...so blizzard run it was ;)

After our blizzard run we came back to the house and did some DEEP cleaning before heading out to church and then dinner. We were in the bed by 9:00 with our house was clean, and lunches were packed and ready for this morning...the best feeling on a Sunday night! I am hoping to make some pictures this afternoon of our fall decor to share with you all this week. I love having it all out!!

FRIDAY NO. 30

Exactly one week ago today Matthew had his sinus surgery. Thankfully the surgery went very well and the doctors were able to remove the cyst from his right sphenoid sinus, and fix his deviated septum. If you have had sinus surgery, or know anyone close to you that has, then you know recovery is rough. He had his follow up appointment this past Tuesday and the doctor drained it pretty good, which Matthew said hurt worse than the surgery, but the doctor did say that it was looking perfect for four days post surgery. So we were very excited to hear that. We can't say enough good things about our ENT doctor and his whole team! They are fantastic!! Matthew is still pretty sore, stuffed up, dizzy at times and dealing with some headaches, but the doctor said that is perfectly normal and expected after sinus surgery. Everyone we have talked to that has had sinus surgery said they experienced all of that as well, and that the recovery just takes some time. We have been told the worst part is over now so he just needs to take it easy and get as much rest as possible. Prayers for a speedy recovery for my sweet man, please!

I mentioned a couple of weeks ago that we bought a new humidifier and that it also is a diffuser for essential oils. The humidifier has been used SO much since Matthew's surgery, doctors orders, and we love it. Well I have been reading more about oils and I am so fascinated by them, but I have still been on the fence about if they really work or not. Last night Matthew got a headache, it was due to his sinus surgery, but I still wanted to see if the oil would work or not. I found this picture; on Pinterest the other day and thought I would give it a try....and it WORKED! His headache was gone within 20 minutes!!!!!! I was a little stuffed up last night so I decided to dab a little under my nose and within a few minutes I was breathing great again! We did buy an off brand oil off of Amazon so I was afraid it wasn't going to work as well as name brand oils, but it worked perfectly fine!

Last Sunday afternoon we had Matthew's grandmother's 90th birthday, and I got to meet a lot of Matthew's family that lives in Mississippi!
Doesn't Matthew look great 2 days after his sinus surgery?! Thankfully he didn't bruise any and there was very little swelling. We only stayed at the party for a little bit because he was still in quite a bit of pain on Sunday.
My best friend and her family stopped by, too!

My BIL brought his new puppy for the weekend, too! We got in tons of puppy snuggles, and melted every time he fell asleep on me.
There was something about this blanket that he LOVED. Every time I held him in it he would fall asleep and I would melt all over again.

We were having some cool mornings but the heat is back and looks like it's here next week, too, but that doesn't mean I'm not enjoying my fall decor around the house! I am also loving my new bracelet from my sister!

Hope you all have a great weekend!!
