DIY BACKYARD DRIVE IN DATE

Now that it's starting to warm up and summer is getting closer I wanted to share one of my older, but most viewed blog posts I have ever written. Back in May of 2013 Matthew and I celebrated our three year dating anniversary. I love celebrating and I love surprises so I decided to surprise Matthew with a homemade drive in at my parents house.

You can read the whole post here, but I'm going to share some of my favorite images from that post now!

The whole set up!

I made a concession stand for us by using an old desk we had growing up and stocked it with some drive in treats.

I also made some "tickets" for the movie and handed them to him when he got there. So cheesy, but it made it even more exciting ;)

I borrowed my dad's truck and stuff the back with a small twin mattress, pillows and blankets to make it extra comfy!

And here is our DIY screen!

Watching our movie

I shared all about how we made the screen in this post, and here are a few pictures from that post!

My dad working on the screen.

By far one of my many favorite memories with Matthew and I was actually able to pull of a surprise without him knowing anything! We had perfect weather and enjoyed the movie together celebrating our 3 year anniversary! I would love to do this again, but I don't think our backyard is fit for something like this right now lol. Maybe one day we'll be able to pull this off again!

year one

In honor of our 4 year anniversary coming up this Thursday, I thought it would be fun to go back and see what all we have done over the past 4 years! So here is year one, 2010.

//Year ONE//
We started "officially" dating on May 29, 2010. We spent a lot of time that summer trying to soak up every bit of time we had together. It was the summer before Matthew's freshmen year of college and the summer before my senior year of high school.

One thing we did that I really enjoyed was celebrating our months that whole first year. I LOVED (still love getting dressed up for dates) getting dressed up and going out on date with Matthew. It was fun but we stopped celebrating "months" after our first year.
In that first year...
I watched him graduate from high school
The day we started dating..
Spent our first July 4th together
He came to all my softball games
He borrowed his brothers truck and drove me to school on my first day of senior year
He came home every weekend and we went to all of the football games at my high school
The night before he left for college
We went up to visit him his first weekend at Tech and I got to see the campus for the first time & his and Nathan's dorm!
Celebrated my 18th birthday
Welcomed fall time with trunk-or-treat at church...
Blackout football game at MTSU that he drove all the way home for...

and double dates to the corn maze.
We celebrated our first Christmas
and our first NYE!
Went to CYC in Gatlinburg with our church!
I was out a whole week due to snow and Tech cancelled classes for the first time for snow in years, Matthew drove home and surprised me and we spent the whole afternoon out in the snow.
Celebrated our first Valentine's Day together
With the help of friends I asked him to my senior prom
We attended my senior prom with our best friends
Spent our first Easter together
He came home for my academic's award
He watched me graduate from high school
He moved back home for the summer.
We celebrated our 1 year anniversary with a movie and a picnic at the greenway

Our first year was fun! We learned a lot about each other and figured out how to make it work living an hour away from each other. We lived for the weekends and loved breaks from school. We were growing as a couple, while still being able to do our own things during the week while we were away from each other.

Look for year two later today!!

{5 on Friday}

Can we just take a minute and appreciate the fact that it is finally Friday (& almost the weekend!!!!)
This feels like it has been the longest.week.ever.

//ONE//
Yesterday I came across this picture and couldn't believe it has been almost 4 years that this was taken!! This was taken on the day Matthew and I started dating.

//TWO//
I saw this the other day and loved it. This is so true. We need to stop trying to be like everyone else and be more like Christ, myself included. this is something we can always work on and pray about daily.

//THREE//
The crew!!
We are going to be so sad to see Andrew go in a little over a week.

//FOUR//
Our SOC boys intramural softball championship was last night and they WON!!
Here is Matthew batting! This was his last intramural softball game :( Next year at this time, Lord willing, he will have a job!!
 SOC guys!!
 Some of the fans watching!!

//FIVE//
You might agree with this or you might disagree, it's your opinion, but I definitely agree with this. I don't know statically about the second part of this but I honestly believe it takes 2-4 years to really get to know someone. I don't know about you but if I am going to marry someone I want to REALLY know them before I commit the rest of my life to them. At the end of this month Matthew and I will have been dating 4 years and I still learn something new about him all the time.
I am thankful we have decided to date awhile before we get engaged.

//HAPPY FRIDAY//
