CHARLESTON 2017 | DAY 3

Finally getting around to posting about our last full day & favorite day in Charleston! I recapped day one here and day two here. Our last full day in Charleston was Tuesday, July 18th...which just so happens to be our anniversary! We spent the whole day at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens and there could not have been a better way to celebrate our two year wedding anniversary than in this beautiful place.

We got there soon after it opened Tuesday morning and we had only planned on spending a few hours there, but we ended up staying around 7 hours...and we still didn't get a chance to see everything. Guess that just means we'll have to go back to see the rest. ;) This is also a picture heavy post, but when you spend 7 hours in one of the prettiest places ever, that's perfectly okay!

We did the trolley tour of the whole plantation, a boat tour, a slave house tour, the petting zoo, and then walked through a couple of the gardens. There was a ton of wild life on the plantation. We saw everything from 12ft alligators to peacocks to deer.

If you look closely at the picture below that is Matthew walking in front of the house on his phone looking for me lol. He had gone to the restroom so I decided to walk around and explore/take pictures and he didn't spot me across the front lawn.

I had some serious porch envy.

There weren't many people on our boat tour so we were able to get up and walk around to see more. Our tour guide was hilarious and pointed out all the baby alligators as we passed them.

It's not everyday you get a kiss from a deer lol

I was highly obsessed with this bridge and it's surrounding areas...absolutely beautiful.

We had our anniversary picture made in front of this bridge as well. I love this little tradition we have started! Also, when we got up from sitting there we looked over and saw a really big alligator floating around. Pretty scary!

We ate dinner on the plantation and ended up taking it into the theater to watch some of the history on the plantation and to cool off, it was pretty hot that afternoon! After we left the plantation we headed back to our hotel to rest and change for our anniversary dinner.

After dinner we walked around Battery Park and then along some of the old historic houses. They are gorgeous and I loved everything about them.

On the way back to the hotel we stopped at a local place for some ice cream to end the night. We woke up bright and early the next morning, packed our stuff and headed to Callie's Little Hot Biscuit (thanks for the recommendation, Ashley!!) before hitting the road to head home.

WE LOVED CHARLESTON!

FRIDAY VOL. 30

It has been a week, and I'm pretty sure this was me Tuesday morning...

My team had a potluck at work this week and I decided to make a cherry/pineapple dump cake. It was the first dump cake I have ever made, but it most definitely won't be my last. I will be making that for all potlucks from now on. So easy and delicious! Next dump cake on my list is a peach one!

We got home one night this week and found Reagan sleeping on the stairs waiting for us...I love her.

The first part of this week the humidity was really low so we could sit outside and not suffocate in the heat and it was really nice!

This makes me laugh every time I see it shared on Facebook. So funny and so accurate!!

I know I'm probably really late to the game on this, but I just started using OneNote at work and I am OBSESSED. I love it so much that I will be using it for personal stuff too. I love that there is an app as well. Anyone use it? Love it or hate it? I've probably spent an hour or so on it everyday this week getting all my stuff organized on it.

CHARLESTON 2017 | DAY 2

I recapped our first day in Charleston yesterday, and today I am recapping our 2nd day. We woke up and it was pouring down rain so we switched our plans around a little. We went to breakfast at Early Bird Diner (highly recommend!) and it was hands down, the best french toast I have ever had. Matthew got chicken and waffles and said it was amazing. Such a cute little locally owned place, too.

We wanted to see the Angel Oak Tree, and even though it was still pouring we decided to go see it with hopes that the rain would let up. We got there and there were still people there but they weren't letting people go see it because they were afraid of damaging the roots. So no pictures, but we did get to see her in all her glory! Such a beautiful tree, even in the rain. After we left there we headed to the Harbor for our boat ride to tour Fort Sumter. Matthew was really excited about touring Fort Sumter, and I actually ended up liking it a lot better than I thought I would. It was really cool to see and hear all about where the Civil War began. Get ready for picture overload

When we arrived it was pouring down rain and we weren't so sure how the day was going to go, but thankfully it stopped raining on our boat ride over to Fort Sumter.

We took this boat over to Fort Sumter

It's hard to believe this place used to be three stories high at one point!!

After we toured Fort Sumter we came took the boat back and toured USS Yorktown CV-10. That was also really cool to see. It is incredibly large and they have it set up like it was before they retired it.

After touring both of those locations we headed back to the hotel to rest and change for dinner. We decided to drive over to Folly Beach, since it was so close, for dinner and to walk along the beach.

We were both craving pizza so we decided on Woody's Pizza and it was pretty good, nothing special, but not bad!

After dinner we drove down to the beach. We loved the little town so much that we both decided that we want to come back and stay somewhere in Folly Beach by the water one day.

It was a beautiful evening, wasn't very crowded, and the weather was amazing!
I'll share our third day in Charleston tomorrow.

CHARLESTON 2017 | DAY 1

Matthew and I had both taken off some for our 2nd anniversary. We had thrown around the idea of going somewhere but decided to just stay home and have a staycation. The Thursday before our anniversary we were sitting at the table eating dinner and I brought up the idea of going somewhere for a few days, and Matthew suggested Charleston. I was all for Charleston since I've never been there and I have heard so many wonderful things about the area. Literally an hour later we had confirmed plans with my in-laws for Reagan to stay with them, our hotel was booked, and we already had a list of things going that we wanted to see/do in Charleston. We are not spontaneous people by any means lol. Last year we booked our cruise at least 6-7 months in advance, I make detailed packing lists, I make a few stops at the store the week before we go on trips to pick up last minute items, I make about 10 to-do lists, etc. So as you can imagine about two hours after we decided everything I kind of freaked out a little bit, but Matthew assured me everything would be fine and we would have a good time....and he was exactly right! Who knew we could be spontaneous?!? ! ;) We do have a little work on our spontaneity though, I forgot my all my shirts hanging up on a guest bedroom door at home and we forgot Matthew's belt. Thankfully there was a Target 6 minutes from our hotel so a few new shirts and new belt it was! ;)

Saturday morning we met my MIL to drop Reagan off with her before we grabbed some breakfast and hit the road.

We decided to go through Johnson City on our way to Charleston to see my BIL, Nathan. We got to Johnson City Saturday afternoon and hung out with him for the rest of the day. We went to his campus, went to the movies, and then got Mexican for dinner at his favorite place there. We had a great time and appreciated him letting us stay with him on our way through! Also a big thank you to him for letting us borrow his GoPro. We are OBSESSED and want our own now lol.

The only picture I took while we were in Johnson City...it was like we were back in school again!

Sunday morning we woke up early and hit the road. When I realized we were going to be driving through Asheville I immediately remembered that Christina has mentioned multiple times about a place downtown that they always stop at for breakfast, so we decided to try it. The Early Girl Eatery was delicious and an adorable little place to eat. Thankfully we only had a 10 minute wait!! I got the ham and cheese biscuit and Matthew got the Southern Breakfast. I had the local homemade blackberry jam as well with my biscuit and it was absolutely incredible!!

After breakfast we were back on the road to Charleston with road trip snack in hand

We arrived early Sunday afternoon and got checked into our hotel and rested for a bit before we headed out to to Target to get me some shirts and Matthew a belt lol. After that we headed down to Waterfront park to explore a bit!
I was excited to finally see the Pineapple fountain!

We decided to walk downtown for dinner since we were so close already. Matthew really wanted to eat at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company so off we were. It was delicious and we didn't have to wait at all thankfully! After dinner we were beat so we headed back to the hotel for the night. A storm was rolling in so we didn't want to get caught in it anyways. It stormed all night and it was honestly so peaceful, I was out soon after my head hit the pillow that night!

And that's our first day in Charleston! I'll share day 2 tomorrow.
